  13. Levinson Lyon Business Accounting System v2.12.1 has been tested as compatible 
  14. with LANtastic 4.x.

  17. Product Overview
  18. The Levinson Lyon family of computerized accounting modules have been designed
  19. for general business accounting and emphasize ease of use and multi-user
  20. access.  Modules include Accounts Receivable, Billing, Inventory Control,
  21. Accounts Payable and General Ledger.

  24. Installation
  25. The machine on which the system will be installed must be configured as a
  26. LANtastic server.  Installation is accomplished from floppy disks.  Insert
  27. software disk #1 in the floppy drive and from the floppy prompt type:

  31. Respond to the prompts and insert the remaining diskettes as they are requested.  
  32. The installation procedure will not ask for network type.  Verify your
  33. CONFIG.SYS file meets  the "Files=" and "Buffers=" requirements as outlined in
  34. Guide to Operations Chapter 2.

  37. Configuration
  38. After successful installation, configure the server by:
  39.  
  40. Begin the application by typing LYON at the DOS prompt
  41.  
  42. Choose "Utilities" from the left menu, then "Computer Definition" from the right 
  43. menu.  Enter the requested information paying particular attention to the
  44. Network Device Map.  Each drive used by the application is mapped to a DOS local
  45. or network drive.  This alleviates the requirement that a series of DOS drives
  46. must be uniformly reserved by all network workstations that will use the
  47. application.  Note that the LYON "Machine Name" is the LANtatstic redirector
  48. machine name.

  50. At the Main Menu, choose "Printer Configurations" (right menu) to configure
  51. your printers

  54. Access to Levinson Lyon from a LANtastic workstation
  55. To use the accounting package from a LANtastic workstation, perform the 
  56. following steps:

  58.         Net Login  \\<LYON Server> <Username> <Password>
  59.         Net Use L: \\<LYON Server>\C-DRIVE\
  60.     L:
  61.     Cd LYON
  62.     LYON

  64. Each workstation must also be configured as outlined above
  65.

  67. Security
  68. Security may become an issue when sharing data among multiple users on a 
  69. network.  Password protection can be implemented following the instructions in 
  70. Chapter 2 in "Guide to Operations".

  73. Multi-User Access
  74. For multi-user use be sure to load the DOS SHARE program on the Levinson Lyon 
  75. server before starting the LANtastic network.  Levinson Lyon use a combination
  76. of file and record locking to allow multiple simultaneous access and updates of
  77. data files.  If two users are simultaneously modifying the same data record,
  78. one of the users will receive the non-fatal error message "Record no longer the
  79. same - Changes not processed".

  82. Report Printing
  83. Before starting the accounting package, issue the NET USE command through the 
  84. operating system to establish a printer connection.  For example:

  86.     Net Use LPT1 \\<Printer Server>\@PRINTER

  89. Network Disconnects
  90. If a network disconnect occurs but the connection is reestablished before Net 
  91. BIOS time-out, the application recovers completely.  After time-out, however,
  92. the application will fail with the error message "Device I/O error in CTEMP".
